Abstract
The present study measured the level of depression and related factors concerning the aged over 60-years-old(N=280) living at agriculture and fishing village in Koje city, Kyung-sang Namdo -within the servitude of 6 community health posts- from July, 2004 to August, 2004. Examiners, after interviewing each of the aged individually, composed the questionnaires. The questionnaires include information about gender, age, education, job, economic state, other diseases, alcohol drinking, smoking, exercise, self-rating stress level for last 1 month, self-rating physical state, sleeping hours, and the
level of depression was measured by GDSSF-K, which consists of 15-items. The depression prevalence of the male aged (45.6%) was significantly lower than the female aged (62.2%). The results of multiple regression analysis suggest that age, and sleeping time are significantly related with depression level of the male aged. That is, the older, and the less sleeping time, the more depressed. The female aged depression level was related to age, self-rating physical state, exercise, self-rating stress level for last 1 month, and other diseases. That is, the older, the lower self-rating physical state, the lower exercise, the more self-rating stress level for last 1 month, and the more other disease, the more depressed. The high depression prevalence of the aged l~ving at agriculture and fishing village suggests that a concrete and resonable solution programs are needed. Moreover, because the level of depression is highly related with economical and physical problems, they must be taken into account in the preventive and management programs.
